SUVA (FS Online/Pacific Media Watch): A Fiji church group has called for the banning of a movie that depicts Catholic beliefs in a bad light.

The movie, Angels and Demons, is proving popular in Fiji cinemas as it is the screenplay of the novel of the same name by Dan Brown. Brown also wrote the other controversial novel and 2006 movie The Da Vinci Code.

 --snip--

Catholic League (Fiji) spokesman Kelepi Lesi said the Hollywood movie only provided a negative portrayal of the church.

"It has produced films that undermine moral culture," Lesi said.

"Hollywood's production of The Da Vinci Code sensationalised a conspiracy theory and lately Angels and Demons has turned the gospels upside down to poison the faith," Lesi said.
